Blue Light Glasses - Function AND Fashion
We’ve all acquired a lot of new skills during this quarantine. We have transformed into short order cooks, referees, therapists, creative directors, and {reluctantly} homeschool teachers. This end of this school year has been filled with screens, screens, and more SCREENS!! YouTube videos to learn about the branches of government, Google Meetups to catch up with classmates, and hours of online learning programs to keep up with math computation skills. All of these extra hours of screen time have been a strain on our patience and our eyes.
The kids weren’t the only ones whose eyes were glued to a screen for longer periods of time than normal. I also was reading more emails from their schools, ordering groceries on phone apps, corresponding with their teachers via Remind, spending time on Google researching kitchen experiments, developing this blog, and {admittedly} doing a little too much on-line shopping. By the end of the day, my eyes would be exhausted and I would be feeling the start of a headache. Blue light glasses to the rescue!!
I had a few pairs of blue light glasses on my nightstand that I would wear at night when watching TV or scrolling through Instagram before falling asleep. I noticed a difference in the quality of my sleep and my ability to drift off to dreamland after unplugging from a screen. I also use these glasses as an accessory to my outfits. I’ve always wanted glasses, even as a kid. I would actually try to fail my eye exams, can you believe that?! Before starting college, I bought my first fake pair of glasses and, since no one knew me and my perfect vision, was able to stage nearsightedness by casually slipping on my glasses throughout class.
But now my “fake” glasses have a purpose far more important than completing an outfit, although they do that too! I realized that if my blue light glasses were helping me with my eye strain, then the kids could benefit from wearing them as well during their virtual learning sessions. Added bonus: they look super cute in their frames!
